JUST HOW FAR CAN YOU SHINE YOUR LIGHT?

A Canadian writer (Charles De Lint) once said, “every time you do a good deed you shine the light a little farther into the dark. And when you are gone that light is going to keep shining on."

Our deeds, just like art, portray our feelings, imaginations, thoughts and ideas.

With art, we leave a legacy to world, something that can be appreciated, because ART is beauty.

Any artist out there wants to live large out of his/her work. Feel every inch of worth from the efforts made. But let's do some reality check, few, would give up thousands of dollars for charity, let’s not think of millions.

Allow me take you to Germany, where you meet the most famous and expensive living artist Gerhard Ritcher.

And as the saying goes, charity begins at home, well it sure does. Ritcher has been living in Düsseldorf for years, where he studied at the art academy, before becoming a professor at the school until 1993.

Currently, Ritcher is expected to make a major donation that will help finance the construction of 100 units of permanent housing for the homeless in North Rhine-Westphalia, which is a region that surrounds Düsseldorf. The project, under fiftyfifty - a magazine and charitable organization for the homeless will be taking place for the first time in the region.

Richter will be selling one of his works expected to generate €1to €1.2 million. The sale entails a special edition of color offsets, which is his ongoing series “Cage f. ff”, from 2015.

This honourable gesture by the 86-year-old artist will surely be a blessing to a number of souls out there.

And just like I had stated before, we leave a legacy to the world. So, what will be yours?
